Hotkeys & Workflow: How to Record Without Breaking Flow

The best recording setup is the one that doesn’t pull you out of the moment.

CaptureGem overview + downloads: https://www.capturegem.com/

The goal: one-tap control

If CaptureGem supports hotkeys, configure at least:

  • Start recording
  • Stop recording
  • Pause/resume (optional)
  • Mark a moment (optional)

Then practice once or twice so your hands do it without thinking.

Build a “pre-flight” ritual

Before you go live:

  1. Open CaptureGem
  2. Confirm capture target
  3. Confirm audio sources
  4. Start a 5–10 second test
  5. If good: start the real recording

This takes 30 seconds and saves you hours.

Reduce mistakes with simple rules

  • Don’t change capture targets mid-session
  • Don’t open random windows while recording full desktop
  • Stop + rename immediately

A naming convention that scales

Try:

YYYY-MM-DD_platform_topic_notes

Example:

2026-02-27_siteA_evening_session_highenergy

Boring? Yes. Useful? Extremely.
